PUBB Launches Fund Raising Campaign to Support Legal Action Against the Fence

Over the past year, PUBB has worked very closely with its lawyer to develop a legal strategy to establish public rights to the property which has been fenced.  We are now seeking to raise $60,000 to commence this process in the courts.  Donations can be made to PUBB and sent to PUBB, PO Box 222, Perkinsfield, ON., L0L 2J0.

If, for any reason, the legal action does not proceed, we will return your donation so please include your name and a complete mailing address with your donation.

Why would we not proceed?  This best reason would be that the Attorney General for Ontario fulfills his role of “guardian of the public interest” and takes over the case.  PUBB will continue to work on that front.

Does PUBB have legal status to accept "donations" from a tax-exempt or charitable donation status. Or is any money simply a contribution?

Maybe I'm out-of-line here, but from all of the comments you've submitted; the words of wisdom and legal opinions you've shared with all of us during the past several months, I thought you would be more knowledgeable about PUBB and their past fund raising activities, yet you seem to know very little about this organization and how they operate.

Since PUBB is not supported by any level of government, including our local township council that sits less then a mile up the road, I think the answer to your question is pretty obvious. PUBB is spearheaded by some very hard working, local citizens who have put their heart and soul, and in some cases, their own safety, into representing this small community to regain public access, based on our historical rights, to sit, walk and swim at Balm Beach without being verbally or physically assaulted.

They represent us at local council meetings and have addressed this issue with every provincial government office they have been directed to, I think they call it, “Passing the Buck”, with little or no results, yet they continue on!

PUBB has been trying to raise money to obtain funds for legal representation to support our cause for some time now. Until recently, this was done by inviting the community to come to the main beach and enjoy fresh local corn and BBQ hot dogs, they also had T-shirts that people could purchase for a minimum donation.

The money raised was put in a fund to cover the legal expenses required to retain a lawyer so that this problem could be addressed through the courts in a civil and mature manner. Unfortunately, while the community was out enjoying themselves and supporting PUBB, acts of rampant vandalism to property and vehicles would occur throughout the neighbourhood.

A lot of time and hard work goes into these fund raising activities, and not only does the weather play a major role, but I believe that people are afraid to leave their property unattended to participate and support these events.

PUBB has made it very clear that they need $’s to continue their legal fight on behalf of this community and I don’t believe they are going to obtain their goal with corn and hotdogs! I can assure you that any money raised will not be used to pay for, Golf Tournaments, Hi-Speed Internet, Pig Roasts or Ribbon Cutting Ceremonies! If you want to help, help where it counts, open your wallet or offer your time!

As far as their, “legal status” to “accept donations”, well I think it’s pretty obvious that this is not a, “Charity” and as I said before, to the best of my knowledge, they are not supported by any level of government so, I guess the answer would be that this is a contribution to a, “good cause”, and if you’re looking for a tax receipt, support a “Charity”.

I think this question should probably have been directed to, and addressed by, a PUBB member. Contact information is provided on this Website. If I’m wrong, I sincerely apologize to everyone who reads this message, especially Hazen and all PUBB members!
